We’ve all seen the chalking hair trend, but I am swooning over this lavender hair. Blue Planet decided to take the chalking trend to another level in their new lookbook, Planetary Rose.

Stunning shots of a colourful nymph lost in the desert breathe new life into the Summer/Spring festival look and reaffirm my love for all things lavender. If you are planning to embrace everything purple, then it only makes sense to brew some tea to match. My suggestion and current obsession, aromatic lavender tea.

The flavonoids and strong scent have amazing calming effects making it useful for reducing stress and relaxing muscles. The tea possesses high antidepressant qualities and it great for people suffering from insomnia or migraines. Try adding honey and ginger to your tea and enjoy its soothing effects and why stop at tea? Lavender macarons are as delicious as they are pretty.

Lavender is not only my favourite colour, but my favourite flavour this Autumn.

High Tea hair

It’s no secret that High Tea and fashion go hand in hand. Different outfits cater for different venues and as long as you understand what you’re dressing for it can be easy to perfect your outfit. However, a perfect outfit can go to waste if the look is not completed with a gorgeous hairstyle.

Here are my teassentials to ensure your hair looks as lovely as your outfit at any high tea event:

Millinery
Most of the time High Tea Parties are one of the rare occasions you can wear a large headpiece indoors and not feel rude. Many parties encourage, or even theme the event around millinery so don’t be afraid to wear something creative.

The bun
I am a lover of the big bun. The bigger the better. Every girl should know at least one way of putting their hair into a bun. Who knew there were so many ways to do it? Donut bun, messy bun, ballerina, knot….I could go on (like I said I really like buns)

hair bun

Up or down?
Possibly the most asked question while girls are getting ready. To answer this consider the neckline of your dress. If it’s low cut or a simple high neck, down looks best. If it’s an embellished high neckline or you’re wearing a statement necklace, rock the bun

YouTube
I don’t need to tell anyone how great YouTube is when it comes to beauty tutorials. If you ever want a style, but you’re not sure how to get it YouTube is the answer.

Here is just one example of a really helpful YouTube hair tutorials from one of my favourites, Michelle Phan:

Styling tools
The most important part! Make sure you have the right styling tools for your hair style. There are of course the obvious, the right brush, hairspray, comb, but one tool I cannot live without is my GHD hair straightener. It heats up quickly, is gentler on your hair than other straighteners and you can do basically any style with it. Dead straight locks or large 70s barrel curls are made simple. The straighteners themselves also look amazing, just check out the limited edition peacock straighteners.

Now your hair can look as gorgeous as your outfit.

The sun is out, everyone is losing their mind over cider and all the incredible festivals Australia has to offer are beginning.

Tomorrow is Melbourne’s Big Day Out and I thought I’d share my tips on choosing the right outfit for when you’re heading to a music festival.

Choose an outfit you are comfortable in. Try and find something lightweight and summer appropriate. It’s a long day out in the sun so there is no need for excess layers and thick fabrics.

Hide your belly button. If you’re wearing a bustier leave your low rider shorties at home. It is much more flattering to wear some high waisted shorts. Remember you’re showing a lot of skin already, leave something for the imagination.

Be yourself. We’ve all seen masses of people in black t-shirts gather to music festivals, but those days are well and truly over. Just because you’re going to be hanging out at the metal stage all day doesn’t mean you have to put on your corset and black boots. If you want to wear a boho smock at the metal stage then you wear your boho smock with pride.

Minimise accessories. Don’t over do it. Some simple bangles or a long chain are enough. Festivals are all about relaxed, effortless looks and no one wants to lose their favourite earrings in the silent disco.

If you’re still stuck for outfit inspiration here are a few looks I’ll be embracing this festival season:

Remember to wear sunscreen and drink plenty of ice tea!

Happy summer!

Happy New Year tea lovers!

It’s been about a month since my last post and I’m feeling guilty for neglecting the site, but I recently learnt how hard it is to blog while you’re on the road (especially when your iPhone is water damaged).

I spent almost three weeks driving from Byron Bay to Melbourne and had the most perfect time away so I thought for my first post in the new year I’ll share a photo diary of my adventures taken by my dear friend, Ashleigh.

Enjoy…

Byron Bay

A laid back Christmas lunch

Spending time with loved ones

Surf, surf and more surf

New Years Eve at the Queens Wharf Brewery, wearing Gary Pepper Vintage

Hiking through rainforests

Ashleigh's amazing photography of Kosciusko

Sight seeing

Pretty, pretty, pretty friends

Highlights from the trip were definitely embracing my hippy side in Byron Bay and spending New Years Eve in Newcastle with one of my favourite bands, Sparkadia.

I set myself some exciting New Years resolutions, including:

1. Learn to sew
2. Finish setting up my online store
3. Be smart with my money
4. Do lots of writing
5. Stop thinking negative thoughts

Pretty basic yes, but I am looking forward to a fun year. I have some big goals to achieve when it comes to blogging so I will be working very hard to reach them.

Hope you all had a wonderful New Years.

How lucky we are to have sass & bide as part of the Australian fashion scene. Their collections are not only always on trend, but they take style and create something very unique and memorable. Their spring/summer 2011 collection, titled ‘Seekerstate’ takes a bowerbird approach to designing, by bringing in a large range of shapes and textures while still finishing with a cohesive collection.

Although the fabrics are eclectic, pulling in inspiration from nautical prints, gorgeous golds and eye-catching brights the silhouettes are elegant and relaxed. The collection features dreamy dresses and striking outerwear and the ‘Seekerstate’ lookbook displays them in a beautiful showcase beaming with forest love. All in all, they had me at blue and white striped pant.

The oversized watch

I’m guilty of often stealing my boyfriends clothes, belts and hats. For his 21st birthday I bought him a large watch, which I am also guilty of stealing. Gorgeous girls, like Rumi Neely and Emily Schuman have been sporting the Michael Kors oversized watch in their outfit posts. It really is a great accessory that can make a plain outfit look a little more eye-catching.

I think now that the trend is really taking off it is time for me to leave my boyfriends black and silver watch and get myself a gorgeous gold oversized beauty.

Birthday goodies

About two weeks ago I turned the big 23 and so far the age has been good to me. I spent my night at Campari Lounge in Melbourne with my dearest friends. My only regret is not getting more photos!

I wore a black, jeweled Fate dress with a scalloped hem and teamed it with some Wittner platforms and a long, peach blazer. On the day I received a vintage silver key necklace which completed the outfit perfectly.

I was completely spoiled with some of my favourite things, macarons, tea and books.

Thomas Dux macarons

Earrings from Pauline's Vintage Delights

T2 Ice tea jug filled with strawberry and cream ice tea

A macaron cookbook, Pride and Prejudice and Dylan on Dylan

Goodies from Sportsgirl and The Oriental Teahouse

An amazing book on the beautiful McQueen

I received many more wonderful things and all in all it was a fabulous birthday. I’ve also been slightly slack this month while I was finishing my masters degree, but all is done now and I have big plans for the blog. Soon I will be able to post the photos from my amazing adventure to Sydney to celebrate the end of my studies. Sydney is one of my favourite places. Not only is the city beautiful, but the girls dress incredibly. It’s always fun visiting a new city and trying out some daring outfits to fit your surroundings.

Coming this weekend on the blog will be another hair post. After the success of my Ombre hair repair post I thought I will update you on the aftereffects of having ombre hair and what I think will be the next big trend in hair colour and style.

Tomorrow is the first day of summer, so fill up up your ice tea jugs and bake some delicious macarons!
